How much should an ESO expect to get paid?

The salary of an ESO in the mining industry can vary depending on their qualifications, experience, and the state or territory they work in. In general, permanent ESOs can expect to earn a higher salary than relief ESOs. The average salary for a permanent ESO in the mining industry in Australia is around $100,000 to $120,000 per year, while relief ESOs can expect to earn around $80,000 to $90,000 per year.

Permanent ESOs are typically employed full-time and have a set salary and benefits package, which may include allowances for uniforms, fitness and wellness, and overtime. They also receive regular training and opportunities for career advancement.

Relief ESOs, on the other hand, are employed on a casual or contract basis and are called upon to fill in for permanent ESOs who are absent or on leave. Relief ESOs may be paid a higher hourly rate to compensate for the lack of job security and benefits. However, relief ESOs may also have fewer opportunities for training and career advancement. We have seen hourly rates as low as $47/hr right up to $70/hr for experienced ESOs.

It's worth noting that relief ESOs may also have more flexibility in their work schedules, which can be an advantage for those who want to balance work with other commitments. Permanent ESOs may have more stability in their work arrangements and can be assured of a consistent income.

ESOs in the mining industry may also be eligible for additional benefits such as accommodation, meals, and transportation, especially for those working in remote areas. These benefits can significantly enhance the overall compensation package for ESOs.
